Steely-vented hummingbird, red-rumped cacique, wallace's fairy wren, streaky-breasted spiderhunter ... enigmatic names or terms, familiar only to ornithologists. This book is about the nests of these and many other bird species, the bizarre, incredibly fragile, interlaced creations cemented together with grass, clay, leaves and a variety of other materials that birds assemble to lay their eggs, incubate and raise their offspring.

They show what was once 'home' to the Ukrainians, what's been lost, and what they long to reclaim: their country, their peace, an existence without constant threat, an entirely normal life ... The images captured by these many photographers speak in different visual languages, yet they share a common message: the deep humanity that persists amidst a decades-long conflict marked by growing brutality. It's a moving chronicle of multiple perspectives and experiences-haunting, harrowing, and unforgettable. Photography cannot end wars, but it plays a vital role in enabling a deeper understanding, by making visible what is happening, and preserving a record for posterity of the things that have happened.
S'inspirant des mots du réalisateur français Robert Bresson "Rendre visible ce qui, sans vous, pourrait peut-être jamais été vu", le photographe allemand Günter Steffen a arpenté les rues de Berlin entre 1984 et 1989 souvent tôt le matin, quand tout est calme et la ville semble à l'arrêt. En noir & blanc, il a documenté sans relâche le quartier du Mitte, où il vivait.
Cet ouvrage accompagne une exposition présentée à Milan en 2021 puis à la Fondation Helmut Newton à Berlin en 2022. A l'heure où peu de photographes osent encore photographier les gens dans la rue sans faire appel aux services d'un avocat, le photographe allemand Michael Dressel a décidé de revenir aux fondamentaux de la photo de rue dans sa ville adoptive de Los Angeles, travaillant en noir & blanc, avec une approche à la fois ludique et empathique sur les laissés pour compte du rêve américain.
Le châlet constitue l'un des clichés les plus récurrents sur la Suisse, alors qu'en latin, le terme Cala désigne simplement un refuge. Au cours de ses nombreux voyages dans son pays d'adoption, le photographe Patrick Lambertz a visité de nombreux châlets qui ne correspondent pas du tout à l'image d'Epinal la plus répandue. Pour cette série, il en photographie donc une sélection, de face dans la neige, avec une approche typologique évoquant les Becher, pour les isoler de leur contexte et mettre en avant leurs caractéristiques formelles.
Ulrich Wüst est reconnu à l'échelle internationale en tant que photographe documentaire depuis sa participation à la Documenta 14 en 2017. Il y observait le statut et le développement des villes d'Allemagne de l'Est depuis les années 70. Entre objectivité présumée et ironie subtile, ses images en noir & blanc commentent la transformation des villes de RDA et la manque de vision sociétale de ses dirigeants. Réalisée entre 1979 et 1985, la série "Stadtbilder", est considérée comme son travail le plus important de cette époque. Cet ouvrage rassemble pour la première fois les 50 images originelles de cet ensemble, et y ajoute une trentaine de clichés additionnels, tirés récemment par Ulrich Wüst à partir de négatifs de l'époque.

The background, too. There is always something behind a character. The background itself can be evocative. It can also be an element of study. Whether a man is photographed leaning almost identically against a fence or a wall, his gaze is elsewhere. Only the camera follows its movement. These photographs were taken with a large-format camera in Porto Tolle, at the very eastern end of the River Po Delta, during a few trips for another commission. Using a camera of this type requires the use of a tripod. You have to stop if you want to avoid greater blur. You have to position yourself to be able to see clearly. This precision of technique is reflected in the calm and carefully composed images.

For more than fifteen years he has been working on various long-term photographic projects, especially in the field of portraiture, but landscape and interiors are also among his fields of interest.

En parallèle de la guerre du Vietnam, très médiatisée, s'y est en effet déroulé contre le Pathet Lao, soutenu par les communistes nord-vietnamiens, la plus grande guerre secrète jamais menée par les services secrets américains. Jusqu'à alors classées confidentielles, les milliers d'images et quelques films et écrits pris par John Willheim témoignent cinquante ans plus tard d'un évènement géopolitique pratiquement oublié. Il ramène aussi à notre mémoire les membres de l'ethnie Lao Hmong, soutenus secrètement dans sa guerilla contre le pouvoir central par les Etats-Unis puis abandonnés à la persécution après la fin de la guerre.
Volker Hinz (1947-2019) was one of the great German photographers of the 20th and early 21st centuries. He himself selected the pictures for the second volume «Carrousel» of the book trilogy (edited by his wife Henriette Väth-Hinz) for an exhibition in 2015. They were taken behind the scenes of countless fashion shows-especially in Paris, where his ticket as a Stern photographer gave him access to areas that remained closed to ordinary photojournalists. The Paris images, taken between the 1970s and 1990s, are complemented by shots from Milan, Florence, London, New York, Beijing, Shanghai, Moscow, and Hamburg. They give us a glimpse behind the scenes of the haute couture scene and scene, while also depicting fashion designers-occasionally in private, completely «unadorned,» but also in their function as major figures on the art scene. From Karl Lagerfeld to Thierry Mugler, from Yves Saint Laurent to Claude Montana and Armani, Hinz observed many of the legendary designers of his time. Staying true to his style, he was not impressed by the glittering world of models and fashion and managed to capture very personal, candid moments.
The design of this book is based on the magazine style of the 1990s as in a slide carousel, the pictures are collaged together allowing the viewer to dive deep into the great era of the fashion world, couturiers, and supermodels.

Sie gewähren uns einen Blick hinter die Kulissen der Haute-Couture-Szene und zeigen Modeschöpfer mal privat, ganz »ungeschminkt«, aber auch in ihrer Funktion als Kunstfiguren. Von Karl Lagerfeld bis Thierry Mugler, von Yves Saint Laurent bis Claude Montana und Armani. Volker Hinz beobachtete viele der legendären Designer seiner Zeit. L'architecte japonais Kengo Kuma et la photographe gréco-israélienne Erieta Attali travaillent ensemble depuis plus de vingt ans.
